The quiet cornfields bordering the Wicomico River have a past filled with politics, diplomacy, and intrigue. In her talk, “Forts, Traders and Traitors: Unearthing the Past Along the Wicomico River,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the Lexington Park Library, St. Mary’s College of Maryland archaeologist Julia King will describe new discoveries she and her students have made, including an Indian fort and a governor’s home.

The talk is sponsored by the St. Mary’s County Historic Preservation Commission.
