(St. Mary’s City, MD) February 27, 2012—As part of St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s VOICES Reading Series, tree enthusiast and environmental writer Joan Maloof will read selections from her works on Thursday, March 8th at 8:15 p.m. in Daugherty-Palmer Commons on the college campus.
Maloof has published two books, Among the Ancients: Adventures in the Eastern Old-Growth Forests (Ruka Press, 2011) and Teaching the Trees: Lessons from the Forest (University of Georgia Press, 2005). She has also published chapters in two other books and has published papers in numerous scholarly journals. A scientist by training, Maloof taught biology and environmental studies at Salisbury University, where she is now professor emerita. She recently founded a nonprofit organization, the Old-Growth Forest Network, which aims to preserve ancient forests for future generations.
The reading is free and open to the public, with refreshments following the reading.
