Ganz to Perform Selections by Chopin Dec. 6 at St. Mary’s College of Maryland

December 5, 2012
Press Release #12-157

In his only full length solo recital of the semester, St. Mary's College of Maryland artist-in residence and member of the piano faculty Brian Ganz will play an all-Chopin recital Thursday evening, Dec. 6, at 8 p.m. in the Auerbach Auditorium of St. Mary's Hall. The program will feature what is perhaps Chopin's greatest single composition, the complete Preludes, Op. 28. The program is free and open to the public.

"There is astonishing variety among these 24 gems, from the most delicate tenderness to a fantastically energetic frenzy," Ganz said. Balancing out the brevity of the preludes will be Chopin's largest single-movement work for solo piano, the masterful Fantasy, Op. 49. Also included in the program are the ever-popular "Heroic" Polonaise in A-flat major, Op. 53, and the rarely heard Trois Ecossaises (Three Scottish Dances).
