Dismissal: Appeal Process

To petition the Academic Policy Committee regarding your dismissal from St. Marys College use the template (click here). The policy you'd be petitioning is that about Academic Standing and the need to maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher; it can be found in the catalogue under Academic Policies with the subheading of Academic Dismissal.

Please remember that petitions are usually due within two weeks of the end of the semester, and that the APC will meet to discuss petitions shortly thereafter. You may download the form, complete it and return by email to dfwimberly@smcm.edu, or by fax to 240-895-2234. The most important information in your petition would be:

  1. Information about what happened this term to cause poor performance,
  2. Documentation from physicians or others who can provide insight and verification about your circumstances, and
  3. Your plan for how you are going to turn things around and how you'll hold yourself accountable for these plans - if you're permitted to enroll for the fall term
