Thank you for your interest in St. Mary's College of Maryland. There are special requirements for applicants who are not U.S. citizens. If you are able to complete the 8 steps to the admissions process listed below, please request an application packet for international students from our Admissions Office. Please contact the International Admissions Counselor at St. Mary's before filing your application.
$50 application fee
A $50 non-refundable application fee must be received before an application is complete. The online application includes a payment link.
An Essay
Select one topic and type double-spaced.
1. St. Mary's College is casting for the incoming class. Send us your audition tape via the Web or DVD. Please provide us with the site for posting. Selection of this option will stand as your college essay. Consider your audience.
2. Andy Warhol said that in the future everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes. Describe your future fifteen minutes of fame.
3. All St. Mary's students take a seminar in their first semester which is an introduction to the liberal arts and sciences. If you could design your own seminar for a class of 15 students, what would your topic be, and why? To learn more about the first-year experience and seminars currently offered, visit www.smcm.edu/firstyear/seminars. Outstanding topics may be selected for future seminars.
4. The director of admissions is coming to dinner! Whom would you invite, past or present? What topics would you discuss over dinner? What would you serve your guests?
Service and Co-curricular Résumé
Please provide a résumé of your co-curricular involvements and activities. At the end of the résumé, in a well-written paragraph or two, describe the activities that you consider the most important (250 words typed and double-spaced).
Official copies of all academic work, including transcripts and certificates
Arrange with your high school and/or other appropriate educational institutions (GED, college, etc.) to have a complete, official transcript sent to the Office of Admissions. All copies must be translated into English by the institution or by a certified translator.
SAT-I Scores
Take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) if it is available in your area You can contact the Educational Testing Service of the College Entrance Examination Board, Princeton, New Jersey 08540 at www.collegeboard.com or by calling 1-888-728-4357. Please have your scores sent directly to St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Our ETS code is 5601.
TOEFL Scores
Take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) if English is not your native language. We recommend scores of 550 or better for the traditional test, for the computer-based test we recommend a score of 260 or better.
Citizen Documents
Non-U.S. citizens MUST provide a copy of their passport and immigration status (green card, visa) and an international address before your application is considered complete.
Financial Resource Statement
Obtain a financial resource statement, which is an official statement from your bank indicating your financial responsibility for a year of college.
If you desire on-campus housing, we suggest that all information be submitted as soon as possible as our dormitory space is limited. When you have been accepted, the Form I-20 will be sent to you when we have received your acceptance confirmation deposit.
