2010 Class Profile

As an honors college, St. Mary's admits students who have done well in high school and understand the value of a liberal arts and sciences education. As a public institution, St. Mary's is committed to admitting students with varied interests from diverse backgrounds.

The class entering in 2010 was:
63% female, 37% male
15% from out-of-state or international students
24% students of color
17% first-generation college students

Successful applicants challenged themselves in high school by taking honors, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate courses; demonstrated mature interests as expressed in their essay and résumé of co-curricular activities; had strong letters of recommendation from people who knew them well; earned top grades; and did well on the SAT or ACT. Although it is not possible to reduce the admissions decision at St. Mary's to mere numbers (we carefully review the entire application file), the class medians (shown below) reveal well-prepared students:

Enrolled 449 4.1 3.34 3.99 1750-2020 (middle 50%)

NOTE: Students who are graded on a weighted system receive extra points for work in advanced classes. To treat all students fairly, St. Mary's re-calculates all GPAs on a 4-point scale. Students receive credit for their advanced work during another part of the review process.

St. Mary's does not use minimum criteria for admission, although most students earn exceptional grades and do well on standardized tests. The St. Mary's attention to the entire record of a student is demonstrated by the range of grades and SAT scores of successful applicants in 2010.
