St. Mary’s purchases renewable energy credits to cover its electricity needs. When totaled, “by purchasing more than 17 million kilowatt-hours of green power, St. Mary’s College of Maryland has achieved the equivalent impact of reducing the CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions of more than 2,000 passenger cars annually.”
2,000 cars … that’s a lot. On Monday, the US Environmental Protection Agency announced that St. Mary’s was a winner of its 2008-2009 Green Power Challenge
