So at this point in January, we’re pretty much back in the swing of things here at SMCM. All of our classes have started up (and we’ve all got homework again), teams are practicing, and music groups are rehearsing. Speaking of classes, I’m at that point where I get to take all of the really cool classes in my major, which is psychology. One of the awesome things about our psych department is how in-depth and hands on our professors are, which really helps me learn better and be able to apply what they teach me. One of my classes this semester is Child Clinical Psychology, and we’ve been talking about babies recently… so today, my professor brought in her 13-month old for the class to observe and interact with! That was definitely some of the most fun I’ve had in class!
While we’re getting back to business in class, we’re also getting deep into rehearsals in the music department. We’re focusing on some pretty tough music this semester and preparing it for the annual trip to Alba, Italy. This summer will be my third going to the music festival in Alba (where, no lie, the air smells like chocolate!), and even though I’m going back to the same place, I could NOT be more excited. There will be somewhere around 40 students going this summer, and going with a new group each year gives me a totally different experience each time! The Italians living there are some of the most welcoming people I’ve ever met, and after a while, Alba starts to feel like a second (well, maybe a third) home that you can go back to.

Some of the chamber singers!
Even though I’ll be pining for Alba for the next four months, I think the time will pass by pretty quickly with everything going on here in St. Mary’s City- we’ve got things like classes, homework, friends, and tons of on-campus activities to keep us busy. Catch you guys again soon!
