Over the weekend I traveled to New York City with my South African Literature class to see two Broadway productions. Both plays were written by Athol Fugard, a leading voice in South African theater, and were being revived in honor of his 80th birthday. The plays, “Blood Knot” and “The Road to Mecca” were incredibly moving and well acted (and one of them starred Carla Guginio aka the mom from Spy Kids–the significance of this was lost of my professor).
Though we were in the city for less than 24 hours, we managed to cram in a ton of sightseeing between productions. I had never been to NYC before, so there was a lot to catch up on. I was so impressed by Times Square—especially all lit up on Saturday night. My favorite attraction was Rockefeller Plaza; I am a huge SNL and 30 Rock fan so I made sure to take a lot of pictures. I was really hoping to bump into Tina Fey or Seth Meyers or someone, but the only celebrities we ended up seeing were on stage. That disappointment aside, I had a pretty incredible weekend, and I can’t wait to get back to New York.

Did you get to see the infamous Empire State Building? I have been up and down that building in hopes that I’d find the Ghost Busters (lol)..
