So next Wednesday has been deemed “St. Mary’s Day.” It may sound like a day to celebrate the beautiful river, or our facilities, but in reality, we have been given a day off of classes to participate in a campus-wide discussion about how to make St. Mary’s a better community. Cool, huh? It really goes to show how much we here at SMCM respect and appreciate our community, each other, our environment, and our traditions. Some of the discussions have to do with civility, race, and how we spend our budget (just to name a few). I think that it will be a really cool way to gauge how the people who live and breathe SMCM every day feel about the community, the campus, and most importantly, about each other. As a soon-to-be graduated senior (eek!), I’m looking forward to leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered, with the same sense of community and cohesion that drew me to this beautiful place to begin with.
