Fulbright Scholars

St. Mary's College would like to congratulate all of the students who have received Fulbright grants as graduating seniors of SMCM.

Fulbright

The Fulbright Program was established in 1946 under legislation introduced by then Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas. The Fulbright Program is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State. The program is founded in the ideal of face-to-face exchanges as the most effective means of engaging dialogue between U.S. citizens, and institutions, and their counterparts abroad. In doing so, the Fulbright Program creates a means to better provide an understanding of U.S. principles, promote more effective bi-national cooperation and nurture open-minded, thoughtful leaders, both in the U.S. and abroad. It is the hope of the program that these leaders will then work together to address our common concerns through lasting international relationships.

Approximately 286,500 "Fulbrighters," 108,160 from the United States and 178,340 from other countries, have participated in the Program since its inception over sixty years ago. The Fulbright Program awards approximately 7,000 new grants annually.
Currently, the Fulbright Program operates in over 155 countries worldwide.
