St. Mary's College combines affordability with the challenging academics and individualized attention of private colleges.

We are committed to helping students meet the cost of a St. Mary's education. A college education requires careful planning and often assistance from resources beyond those available to the student and his or her family. St. Mary's believes that no qualified student should be denied the right to pursue an education because of financial constraints. That is why we are proud to offer support services that provide families with individual attention in the financial aid process.

Financial Aid

Financial aid includes need-based grants, student employment, and loans as well as academic scholarships. Financial aid awards may combine federal, state, and college resources. The Office of Financial Aid is committed to helping students and their families understand the financial aid process and can process federal and State of Maryland grant assistance.

Families are encouraged to explore all types of aid and to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to be considered for federal, state, and St. Mary's financial assistance programs. Of the students in the entering class of 2008, 84% received some form of financial aid (100% of those who filed the FAFSA) and 64% received a grant and/or scholarship from St. Mary's.

Tuition and Other Costs

The comprehensive cost of attending St. Mary's includes the direct expenses of tuition, fees, room, and board; as well as indirect expenses for books, supplies, personal needs, and travel. Direct costs (minus financial aid) are billed to a student's account before the fall and spring semesters. The student's need is the difference between the comprehensive costs (direct plus indirect costs) of attendance minus the student's "expected family contribution" or EFC, as determined by the FAFSA process.
