Dear Prospective Parents,
Three years have passed since we were in search of the ideal college. While we were looking for the “perfect” college, there were usually three definitions of what “perfect” would be---Dad’s, Mom’s And Lisa’s. St Mary’s was approximately chronologically the 15th stop on tours of 18 colleges. We had done our research the academics are good—an Honors college, the size was right, and the distance from home while a bit far for Mom & Dad (we are from Pottsville, PA) was right for Lisa.
Our first visit was an Open House; the day was gorgeous, the faculty and students could not have been more welcoming and the campus, ranked as one of the most beautiful in the country, truly was. By days end we were all in agreement of what the ideal college would be, St Mary’s. The new student orientation program for first semester students and their parents continued that “right decision” feeling about being at St Mary’s.
The two plus years at St Mary’s have been all we could have wanted for our daughter. The academics have been great. A summer in the Gambia, West Africa was outstanding. Our daughter is working hard at St Mary’s and enjoying the process. She has filled in the gaps with work in the student government, music programs and the one that surprised us most was getting up at 5AM to go rowing with the crew team. (The river front is beautiful any time of the day.)
While we wish our daughter were closer to home and we saw her more often, we are thrilled with her education, personal growth and her overall happiness with her time at St Mary’s.
