Dear Prospective Student/Family Members:

I am writing to you from an eastern suburb of Philadelphia; in fact my family resides in south Jersey. Our two oldest daughters loved the urban atmosphere and size of our state university, Rutgers, but our third daughter, Shannon, followed by her brother Chad, opted for a smaller, more intimate college experience. Intimate means knowing your professors by their first names. Intimate means classes of fewer than 20 students. Intimate meant for Shannon, knowing everyone in her graduating class. Intimate for me as a parent meant having the college president standing in my living room in Mt, Laurel as she had driven up to watch her son and my daughter row on the Schuykill River.

As a parent, I admit that I second guessed Shannon's decision to pay out of state tuition to SMCM. However, for her, it was a "fit" and worth every cent. She will in fact, probably return next year for her Master's degree in Education and, I think, to catch a few more sunsets on the river. I wish you luck in the college selection process. It's an exciting time for all of you. I hope that you and your student find that "fit" and if SMCM proves to be the "just right" school, I assure you that your son/daughter will receive a fine liberal arts education.
