First-year applications consist of the following components:
The Common Application
The Common App has several parts, and requires a personal statement essay, and must be submitted by the applicable date. There is also a Common Application Supplement, with a unique essay to St. Mary’s, that should be submitted online with your application. Make sure to double check that your application has submitted correctly.
Transcripts and Test Scores
Our application requires a complete official transcript of high school work to date; if applicable, college work must also be submitted. In terms of standardized tests, St. Mary’s College takes the SAT Reasoning or ACT exam scores. Scores should be sent directly from the testing agency. College Board (CEEB) code is 5601, and our ACT college code is 1736. SAT Subject Tests are not required but may be submitted for consideration.
We also require a midyear report reflecting seventh semester or tenth trimester grades.
Take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) if English is not your native language. We recommend scores of 550 or better for the traditional test, a score of 250 or better for the computer-based test, and a score of 90 or better for the online version.
Non-U.S. citizens MUST provide a copy of their passport and immigration status (green card, visa) and an international address before your application is considered complete.
Financial Resource Statement
Obtain a financial resource statement, which is an official statement from your bank indicating your financial responsibility for a year of college.
Letters of Recommendation
We ask that you submit a letter of recommendation from your high school counselor, or a Secondary School Report, along with a letter of recommendation from one of your junior or senior year teachers of an academic subject. If you feel that those two recommendations cannot give us a complete and accurate picture of yourself as a student, you may also submit additional applications.
An application fee of $50.00 is required to process your application. The fee may be submitted online via credit card in the payment section of your application. Please note that the college will not receive your application for review until this section is complete.
Interviews are an optional part of the college application process, and can be scheduled here.
