Q.    What were you looking for in a college?
A.    I wanted to be at a school with a good teaching program because that's what I want to do.  Every time I talked to people about becoming a teacher, they said good things about St. Mary's College.  I knew I wanted to be at a smaller college and somewhere with a lot of school spirit.  I also wanted to be at a school where there was a lot of interaction between students. I wanted to get to know more people than just who was in my classes or living at my hall, more of a community setting.

Q.    What made you choose St. Mary's over other schools that accepted you?
A.    I first came to visit at an Open House.  Everyone seemed really nice, especially the students working the event.  At other schools, I did not meet students that were genuinely happy to have me visit their school.  I could feel that SMCM students have a sense of pride in their institution.  After the Open House, I had a good feel of what the school was going to be like if I chose to attend.

Q.    What have you learned about yourself since being at SMCM?
A.    I have learned that I am very independent in an academic sense.  As far as my academics go, it is my responsibility.  I was a little worried about attending an Honors College, but I am proud of how well I am doing.

Q.    Any advice for students?
A.    Make sure to visit campus.  You have to get a good feel for the school if you plan to be successful there for the next four years.  Go somewhere where you think you can grow, not somewhere where you will continue to be the same person. College is about growing and changing.  Also, enter college with an open mind.  That is really the key to being successful.

Q.    Is there anyone who impacted your college selection?
A.    My English teacher Ms. Dulin first brought St. Mary's to my attention.  Also, my mom is a secretary for the Board of Education and when she told people I was applying to SMCM everyone said "oh that's a good school."  That reassured my decision.

Q.    What is one thing you have learned about SMCM since you've been here?
A.    I did not realize how involved everyone would be in college.  It's so much more than just academics here.  I also did not realize how easy it would be to get involved in activities.
