“Thanks to a grant from the Emergency Assistance Scholarship Fund, a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders and I am able to focus on school. This grant made me understand that St. Mary's will do whatever possible to help its students in need.” – Stephanie Owoundi '14
Access and intellectual exploration are at the core of our public liberal arts college, and therefore the importance of – and need for – scholarship is great.
Whether it is designated for the general scholarship fund, the emergency assistance scholarship fund, or an endowed or current-use named scholarship, these gifts directly support our students. As more and more of our students find themselves challenged by the limits of federal assistance and personal resources, students who succeed academically, meritoriously, are struggling to make ends meet.
We could not offer such a distinctive education in the liberal arts without your support and it is through your generosity that we are able to uphold the promise as the state's honors college.

Named Gift Opportunities
Named gifts can have a transforming effect on the College's students and programs. Endowed or not, these gifts provide desperately needed scholarships and financial stability to signature programs or new initiatives. Endowments, often created in tribute of someone, provide support in perpetuity for scholarships, chairs and professorships, internships, lectureships, and campus buildings and spaces. Scholarship naming opportunities start at $25,000.
At St. Mary's, no tradition is greater than that of each generation giving to those who follow. Scholarships help St. Mary's to attract the best and brightest students and to achieve our mission of remaining accessible, affordable, and diverse.

Alumni Doctoral Scholarship
Drew Solyst '09 believes, "Research is not the practice of solitary individuals secluded in ivory towers. It is the collaborative effort of citizens who dedicate their lives to advancing scientific understanding and improving the health of others. It must be shared with the very community of people that support and benefit from it."
