Some previous events:
MOLEFI ASANTE delivered the 5th Annual Carter G. Woodson lecture on April 24, 2003. As an opening act, we arranged for an African American group, KHAYUMBIA, out of Washington, DC, to perform before the lecture. A comprehensive program was available through the Office of Multicultural Affairs.
Haile Gerima, the creator of the film Sankofa, was on campus 15 April 2002. The public lecture that evening was open to the public.
We were honored to receive Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka from 1 April to 3 April 2001. He spoke at St. Mary's Hall 2 April. While on campus, the Washington Post conducted an interview with him.
We were happy to welcome Puerto Rican poet Martin Espada who visited St. Mary's College from 19 March through 21 March 2000.
Dr. Russell Benjamin from the Black Studies Program at the University of Missouri-Columbia gave a lecture titled "Blacks and the Ongoing Struggle for Freedom." on 15 April 2003.
