Hannah Piper Burns (studio art, 2006) achieved her MFA in 2009 from the San Francisco Art Institute. She currently lives and works in Portland, OR as a freelance art writer, communications director for the Museum of Pocket Art, and a social media and blog coordinator for artist and filmmaker Lynn Hershman Leeson. St. Mary’s College is your home base but there is a big wide world out there with endless opportunities to further your education beyond the walls of SMCM.
Study abroad can be accomplished in 3 primary ways: as a short term SMCM study tour during summer, winter or spring breaks, though a semester-long SMCM signature program, and through many excellent non-SMCM international programs.
There are also a number of ways you can extend your art education beyond St. Mary’s within the US. You can do course work at another university or art school and transfer back the credits to St. Mary’s. This could be done either as a fulltime semester or by taking one or two classes during the summer. There are also fabulous summer workshop programs mostly focusing in studio art areas that are excellent ways to gain advanced skills and work with other professional and student artists.
