Neil Irwin writes about the U.S. economy and the Federal Reserve for The Washington Post. He has been one of the paper's lead reporters covering the recent recession, financial crisis, and government response. He has been at the Post since 2000 and in that span has also covered the Washington-area regional economy, real estate development, and Internet companies. He has won two "Best in Business" awards from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, in 2005 and 2009 (the latter as part of a group), and one of his articles was published in the anthology The Best Business Stories of the Year 2003. He has an M.B.A. from Columbia University, where he was a Knight-Bagehot Fellow in Economic and Business Journalism. His undergraduate studies were at St. Mary's College of Maryland, where he is now a member of the college's Board of Trustees and chairman of the Student Affairs Committee.
