Men's Basketball Faces MIT in First-Round NCAA Playoff Action
For the fourth straight year, the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team will be hosting NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Tournament action. No. 14 St. Mary's will welcome the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena for a first-round game on Saturday, March 2nd at 7:00 p.m.
St. Mary's (24-3) is making its fifth overall, and fourth straight, NCAA tournament appearance. The Seahawks garnered a spot on this year's bracket after capturing the 2013 Capital Athletic Conference championship title with a 79-78 overtime win over Wesley College as well as the league's automatic qualification into the 62-team field. St. Mary's owns an 8-4 record in NCAA tournament play and advanced to the Elite Eight in 2011.
No. 19 MIT (20-5) earned an at-large bid after falling 68-60 to Springfield College in the semifinals of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Championship Tournament. This is the Engineers' fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, advancing to last year's NCAA Final Four. MIT fell in the 2012 national semifinals to the eventual national champion, University of Wisconsin – Whitewater.
TICKETS: Ticket sales for Saturday night's NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship First Round game will begin Wednesday, February 27th at 8:00 a.m. at the concession stand (when facing the Welcome Desk, the stand is to the left) in the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center on the St. Mary's College of Maryland campus.
