The inaugural Chesapeake Youth Writers' Workshop, in conjunction with the Chesapeake Writers' Conference at St. Mary's College of Maryland, will offer a unique experience for high school students interested in the graphic novel. The workshop, which will run concurrently with the second annual Chesapeake Writers' Conference (June 23-29), offers young writer-artists the opportunity to study the art and craft of graphic storytelling, focusing on creating stories with words and pictures. Through demonstrations and hands-on practice, students will start their own graphic novels and stories by learning how to write a graphic novel script, design characters, use panel-to-panel transition techniques and thumbnail sketches, as well as explore various tools for creating their own work-from traditional pen and ink to the latest digital technologies. Students will both write and draw daily.
