Nonviolent Resistance to the Nazis
The 18th Annual Holocaust and Genocide Lecture presents Nathan Stoltzfus, associate professor of history, Florida State University, who was the first to document the week-long nonviolent street demonstrations of German women in Berlin in March 1943 that led to the eventual release of their imprisoned Jewish husbands. His book, Resistance of the Heart: Intermarriage and the Rosenstrasse Protest in Nazi Germany (New York: W.W. Norton, 1995), won the Fraenkel Prize, was translated into German, French, Greek, and Swedish and was turned into a major motion picture.
