The VOICES Reading Series presents Bruce Wilson
Bruce Wilson is a Professor of English at St. Mary's College of Maryland and a founding member of the College's Asian Studies Program. He's been a recipient of two senior Fulbright awards to China and a co-translator, for the Commercial Press, Ltd., of 100 Tang Poems. His translations and scholarship have appeared in Comparative Literature, Philosophy East and West, Poetlore, the Potomac Review, New Letters, the Zhejiang Journal, and the International Journal of the Humanities. For the past several years, he's immersed himself in the practice of Japanese flower arrangement, and has done presentations and/or exhibitions at a variety of venues, including the U.S. National Arboretum, the Japan-America Society of Washington, DC, and the National Geographic Society; and has exhibited abroad in Germany, Jordan, and Japan. He's devoted a part of each of the last seven years to following Kadō, the Way of Flowers, in a Buddhist temple in Kyoto, and has lately begun to work on a series of zuihitsu, or extemporaneous essays, that center on his experiences there.
