For the past several years, he's immersed himself in the practice of Japanese flower arrangement, and has done presentations and/or exhibitions at a variety of venues, including the U.S. National Arboretum, the Japan-America Society of Washington, DC, and the National Geographic Society; and has exhibited abroad in Germany, Jordan, and Japan. He's devoted a part of each of the last seven years to following Kadō, the Way of Flowers, in a Buddhist temple in Kyoto, and has lately begun to work on a series of zuihitsu, or extemporaneous essays, that center on his experiences there.
