Faculty and Staff FAQ
Welcome! We hope you'll find many valuable resources on this site that will assist you in providing support for the career-related needs of your advisees and other students. We encourage you to browse our site (the Career Planning page is a good place to start) and to send us your feedback, suggestions, and questions.
Can I invite the CDC to my class?
We always appreciate the opportunity to partner with faculty in support of the career development of our students. Though Fall is the primary semester for our "Don't Cancel that Class!" program, you may request a Spring class visit by submitting this form. Please also send us a quick email to let us know that you have made a request (careercenter@smcm.edu). Those faculty who select the "CDC Q&A" option should plan to refer their students to this question submission form available at http://tinyurl.com/SubmitQ one week prior to our visit with a request that students submit their questions at least three days in advance.
How can I be sure I am supporting the career development of my students and advisees?
One of the great advantages of liberal arts majors is that they prepare students well for a wide range of career options. But with this flexibility comes responsibility. Faculty are particularly well-positioned to nudge students toward this responsibility, given their level of influence and frequency of contact with students. What can you do—as teachers, advisers, and department members—to assist students in building meaningful, satisfying careers for themselves? Click here to find out!
What do I need to know about the credit internship program?
Faculty members who have been asked to serve as a faculty sponsor should refer to the Internship Guide for Faculty Sponsors. Faculty advisers seeking information on internships will find the Faculty FAQ to be most useful. All policies, procedures, and documents related to the SMCM credit internship program can be found at this page.
