Responsibilities and benefits to the student:
The primary responsibility of the Multicultural & Initiatives Fellow will be to assist the College in the recruitment of under-represented student populations (included, but not limited to: 1st-generation students, students of color, and/or students who may not see or understand, at first glance, the value of a liberal arts education). The fellow would help in assisting the Admissions Office with the charge and mission of the College to provide a quality education and to promote diversity in all its forms. The fellow will serve as a resource, providing outreach to prospective students throughout the admissions and recruitment process/ The fellow will serve as the student coordinator for various Admissions events geared towards diversifying our student population.
The fellowship offers the student an opportunity to put their liberal arts skills to practice. The ability to hone critical thinking skills, public speaking, and interpersonal skills while interacting with prospective students, will be key. Problem solving and organizational skills can and will be used, as well as working as an individual and in a team oriented environment.
Qualifications and unique application instructions:
Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, being able to handle multiple tasks, and the ability to work within the Admissions Office ‘team’ and independently on projects as needed, will be essential. Understanding the mission of St. Mary’s College and how the campus aims to further that mission. Fluency in Spanish, though not required, is desired.
