Maryland Route 5 Safety Project
The Rt. 5 Safety Improvements project includes various highway features intended to improve safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists travelling along Rt. 5 through the College and Historic St. Mary’s City. The project will incorporate measures to reduce speeding by encouraging motorists to drive the posted speed limit, provide sidewalks to separate pedestrians from the roadway, improve lighting, and other safety initiatives. Improving the quality of storm water runoff from the highway, respecting archaeological resources, and maintaining safety and commuter travel are additional objectives.
