The Maryland Historical Trust (MHT) - The Maryland Historical
Trust was formed in 1961 to assist the people of Maryland in
identifying, studying, evaluating, preserving, protecting, and
interpreting the state's significant prehistoric and historic
districts, sites, structures, cultural landscapes, heritage areas,
cultural objects, and artifacts, as well as less tangible human
and community traditions. State Terrestrial and Underwater archeology
programs work to identify, manage and preserve cultural resources.
The Trust is the principal operating unit within the Division
of Historical and Cultural Programs, which is an agency of the
Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. Learn

Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum (JPPM) -
JPPM is a state history and archeology museum that explores the
changing cultures and environment of the Chesapeake Bay region.
They are part of the Maryland Historical Trust, and maintain
an archeology library, an annual public archeology program, as
well as ongoing research. Prospective volunteers should contact

Maryland Archeological and Conservation Laboratory,
Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum The MAC Lab is Maryland's
state-of-the-art archeological research, conservation, and collections
storage facility, and it houses nearly 4 million artifacts-the
majority of which were recovered from Maryland sites. Tour the
MAC Lab, free of charge, the first Friday of every month. To

Historic St. Mary's City-Historic St. Mary's City is an
open-air, living history museum located in Maryland's seventeenth-century
capital. It sponsors archeology and a wide range of living-history

Montgomery County, Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning
Commission
(MNCPPC) The Montgomery County, M-NCPPC's archeology program
is located within its Office of History and Archeology. at Needwood
Mansion. They have access to archeology lesson plan resources,
and offer summer courses for children and adults where they work
on a local African American site. For information about volunteer

Oregon Ridge Nature Center-the Center for Archeology at
Oregon Ridge Nature Center was established in 1983 by the Baltimore
County Public Schools as a means for providing outreach to students
and teachers via onsite activities and curriculum r development.

The Maritime Archeological and Historical Society
The Maritime Archeological and Historical Society (MAHS) members
work to preserve our nation's maritime heritage. The society
enhances the public's awareness of and appreciation for the significance
of historic shipwrecks and other submerged cultural resources.
MAHS activities include research, education, advocacy and diving.
Education program includes a course entitled "Introduction
to Underwater Archeology" which we conduct annually in the
Washington area and a video education series entitled, "Diving
into History" for those who are unable to attend classes.
We are an all volunteer society and members are involved in expeditions
