Professor Goldsmith is involved in several areas of study. He is involved in studies of the history of chemistry particularly the biographies of important chemists, the role of chemical organizations and the development or organic structural ideas. He is concerned about research in chemical education particularly predictive factors and concept development. His work in nutritional chemistry has centered on micronutrients- their stability and requirements, alcoholism, and field studies of population diets.
