Measures and Evaluation of Effectiveness
The effectiveness of Network Services can be quantitatively measured by using several methods. First, several tools can be used to provide daily, monthly, and quarterly uptime and response-time reports for the key network infrastructure components and servers. Second, link and port utilization statistics are gathered using the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), and are displayed graphically using the Multi-Router Traffic Grapher (MRTG) via several Intranet web pages. Effectiveness of the group can also be measured by the quality and speed of repairs and services. These statistics are retained in the help desk database.
Relationship to Other Groups
As an integral part of CTSS, Network Services often provides top-level support to the other working groups within the department. Through staff and project meetings, Network Services keeps CTSS informed of network and general technology changes. Network Services also works closely with several other departments of the college, including the Physical Plant, Public Safety and Business offices.
