Academic Lab Policy

- Students working on academic assignments take precedence over those using the computers for personal reasons, i.e., checking email, Web-browsing.
- Please do not disturb a class that is in session. If computers are available, please proceed with your work quietly.
- If a class enters the labs and requires your computer please save your work and move to a different lab.
- NO FOOD is allowed in academic labs – All drinks MUST have lids.
- No alcohol, tobacco (including chewing tobacco) or illegal substances are allowed in the labs.
- Shirts and shoes are required to be worn in the labs at all times.
- Game playing is not allowed in labs.
- Cell phone use is not permitted in the labs. Please set your phone to vibrate or turn it off when using the lab.
- If you wear earphones, please adjust the volume so only you can hear the sound.
- Skateboards, roller blades, or bikes are not permitted in the labs.
- Telephones in the lab are for staff use only.
- Please keep your work area clean. Pick up and dispose of any trash you create and push in your chair when you leave.
- Printouts should be picked up promptly. Any printout left over two hours will be discarded.
- Report any PC or printer problems to the Student Help Desk, x2357 or helpdesk@smcm.edu.
- Alteration of the system configuration of lab computers is prohibited.
- No additional software may be loaded onto the hard drives of any academic lab computer.
- Use of non-SU equipment with SMCM computer is unsupported and is at the users’ risk. The user is responsible for any damage that may be caused by non-standard equipment.
- Using SMCM equipment for illegal or libelous purposes is prohibited.
- Copying copyrighted material is not permitted.
- Computers and network ports are for SMCM use only. SMCM does not provide ports for personal computer access in the academic labs.
- The Appropriate Use Policy, available at the CTSS website, and the above Lab Policies will be enforced in all Campus Technology Support Services (CTSS) supported academic computer labs.
- Any individual causing a disturbance or failing to comply with the lab rules or with the Appropriate Use Policy will be reported to the appropriate campus authorities.
You will be asked to leave the lab if you fail to comply with the above rules.
