Phishing

Phishing is the now well-established scam process consisting of sending an email to a user falsely claiming to be an established legitimate enterprise in an attempt to scam the user into surrendering private information that will be used for identity theft. Click here for more information.

Each student at St. Mary's College is provided free voicemail in their residence. There is no need to bring an answering machine to school. Instructions for using the St. Mary's voicemail system are below.

To report a problem with your on-campus extension, please contact the Student Support Desk.

When you access your mailbox for the first time, the User Tutorial is automatically activated. The User Tutorial will talk you through your first VoiceMail session including setting up your mailbox with a personalized greeting, name, and passcode. (The initial password on all student voicemail accounts is 1234.)

NOTE: You must set up your mailbox before you can retrieve messages. But you can still be left messages if your voicemail is not set up.

To Access Voicemail:

From your extension:

  1. Dial the internal VoiceMail extension number - 6000.
  2. Enter your passcode.
  3. Follow prompts.

From another extension:

  1. Dial internal VoiceMail extension number - 6000.
  2. Press the * KEY when prompted for a passcode.
  3. Enter your mailbox number followed by the * KEY.
  4. Enter your passcode when prompted.

From off campus:

  1. Dial external VoiceMail number - (240) 895-6000.
  2. Enter your mailbox number followed by the * KEY.
  3. Enter your passcode when prompted.

To Retrieve Messages:

  • Press 7 to Play. Your urgent messages will automatically play first.
  • Press 2 to Answer the person who sent the message. After recording your answer,
  • Press 9 to send it and continue your session.
  • Press 3 to Delete the message. The OOPS KEY. if you inadvertently delete a message you did not want to discard, press the * KEY immediately and the message will be placed back in your mailbox.
  • Press 4 to Give (re-direct) the message to another mailbox.
  • Press 5 to save (Keep) the message. Saved messages cant be accessed until you have listened to your new messages.
  • Press 7 to hear messages again.
  • Press 9 to return to the main menu.
  • Press # to transfer to an extension.

At anytime during the playback of a message:

  • Press 1 to PAUSE for 30 seconds (press any key to resume)
  • Press * to REWIND the message 5 seconds
  • Press # to FAST FORWARD the message 5 seconds
  • Press 8 to SKIP to the next message
  • Press 8* to GO BACK to the previous message

To Send a Message:

  1. Press 6 to Make a message.
  2. Enter a destination.
  3. Once the system confirms the recipients name, enter the extension number of any other intended recipient's. The same message can be sent to several people simultaneously.
  4. When you have finished addressing the message, press the # KEY.
  5. Begin recording your message after the tone. Press the * KEY to pause/resume during recording.
  6. When you are finished recording. Press 9 to send the message and exit to the main menu.

To mark the message urgent delivery, future delivery, confidential, or return receipt, Press 6 for message addressing options. Once you have selected from these options, press 9 twice to send your message and exit to the main menu.

User Options:

G = to record/change your GREETING
N = to record/change your NAME
P = to record/change your PASSCODE
L = to set up/change a distribution LIST
T = to activate TUTORIAL
X = to exit to the MAIN MENU
