The Center sponsors and
organizes
special lectures and events that fulfill its mission to explore the roots of democracy in colonial Maryland and their link to contemporary domestic and international issues. Center offerings are coordinated with several primary consumers in mind: the students, faculty and staff of St. Mary's College and Historic St. Mary's City, interested members of the public and the academic community at-large. In the summer of 2005 the Center hosted 60 educators from 25 states for the NEH Landmarks of American History Workshop, Life, Liberty, and Opportunity: The Struggle for Freedom in Tidewater Maryland, 1634-1865." Bradlee Distinguished Lecture in Journalism Photo from left to right: Zach Messitte (SMCM), Benjamin Bradlee (The Washington Post), Tony Kornheiser (The Washington Post and ESPN), Eric Schlein ('08) and Jenn Ridgely ('08). |
