Sat Afternoon:                                     Participants arrive from D.C. at SMC.

·         Welcome and campus tour  (Zach Messitte, student)

·         Welcome Reception and dinner (Campus Center 226: 6p)

·         Home stay begins drop off 8:30-9

                                                                                                               

3 November

Sunday:                                                 On campus and on the campaign trail

·         Pick-up 9am

·         Introduction (and coffee) to the 2002 Elections; 10:00a.m – 12:00 p.m.

                Zach Messitte

·         Brunch at Zach's family home

·         Visit Republican (Terry Miller) and Democratic (Merv Hampton)  local campaign hq. (Pre-election rally at Dem Hq at 6p.)

·         Dinner out

·         Drop off  9:30pm

                                                                                                               

4 November

Monday:                                                 On the local campaign trail:

·         Pick up 9:30 am

·         Meet with Catherine Countiss, St. Mary's County, Election Director, (Leonardtown) 10am

·         Meet with Alfred Lacer, County Administrator and tour county facilities

·         Lunch: Off campus

·         Meet with Rick Boyd, Editor, The St. Mary's Enterprise newspaper (2p)

·         Visit with Joe Anderson Democrat for County Commissioner on the campaign trail as he goes door-to-door (3-5p)

·         Drop off 6p

·         Dinner with families

                                                                                 

 

5 November

Tuesday: 

                                                                ELECTION DAY

·         Pick up 9am

·         Go with Zach and Julia to vote in the morning at Ridge Firehouse

·         Visit polling places around the county and meet with candidates. on campaign local campaign trail (Visit with Republican candidate for State Senate Barbara Thompson; Visit with Green candidate for County Commissioner, Bob Lewis and others)

·         Lunch (out)

·         On the local campaign trail continued

·         Dinner out

·         Appear as guests on local TV show about experience in St. Mary's (see attachment for questions) 8p

·         Evening: County Board of Elections: (Leonardtown) watch the results come in

·         Drop off 10p

 

6 November

Wednesday:                                          Day on campus

·         Pick up 9am

·         Morning meeting with students Discussion about the differences between US and Russian elections to be taped and transcribed for CSD web site (10-11:30) site tba

·         Attend class: Parties and Elections, Professor Grogan, (12-1:10) KH212

·         Lunch on campus with students

·         Tour of HSMC with focus on government

·         Dinner on campus

·         7:30: Attend lecture at Statehouse sponsored by the Center recapping the elections with former State Senator J. Frank Raley, Tom Dennison, political reporter, The Enterprise, Michael Cain, SMC political science professor. reception afterward

·         Drop off 9:30 pm

                                                   

7 November

Thursday:                                             Day in DC

·         Pick up 8:30 am

·         Visit CNN's "Inside Politics" – Briefing from CNN's chief political pollster (11am) 

·         Lunch in DC (Union Station)            

·         Meet with Jen Burton, Penczer-Burton Political Media Consultants  (2p)  3299 K Street (suite 310)

·         Free time in Georgetown

·         Dinner in Georgetown

·         Drop off 10pm

Friday:                                                   Day in Annapolis

·         Pick up 8:30 am

·         Tour of Maryland State House (11am)

·         Crab cake lunch

·         Meet Louise Heyman, Director of Communication for Maryland Comptroller (and former Governor) William Donald Schaefer

·         Drop off  5:30pm

·         Dinner with Families

                                                               

9 November

Saturday:                                             Free day

·         Pick up 11 am

·         Lunch off campus

·         Tour Naval Air Station Museum                                      

·         5:30 cocktails and 6 p.m. dinner – Closing dinner with participants, homestay families, and the campus community on the campus grounds.  (CC 205 President's Room)

·         Families take home guest

                                                               

10 November

Sunday:                                             

·         Pick up 9am

·         Return to Washington, D.C. (depart from Calvert Hall at 1p for Dulles Airport)
