The Center for the Study of Democracy is embarking on a fundraising initiative to mark the organization’s 15th anniversary and secure the resources necessary to fulfill its mission of championing democratic civic engagement. The Center’s goal to promote understanding of democratic values, traditions and institutions is critical. Your support of the Center helps us prepare our students to be responsible future leaders in government, business, and international relations.
Student Experiential Learning
St. Mary’s College students gain experience in interacting with scholars, community leaders and government officials through their work as Student Ambassadors at the Center. The Center also awards internships and grants to students aspiring to work at various levels of government and private sector organizations.
First Class Public Lectures and Forums
The Center hosts leading politicians, such as Senator Ben Cardin and Rep. Steny Hoyer, and media personalities, such as Carl Bernstein and Cokie Roberts. It’s partner, Historic St Mary’s City, provides historical perspective to many of our programs. With The Patuxent Partnership, the Center invites renowned national security experts to discuss U.S. interests around the world.
A Commitment to Civic Engagement and Global Perspectives
The nonpartisan Center exposes students and community members to diverse perspectives on important domestic and international issues.
The Maryland Civic Incubator Program
This 2018 pilot program will build powerful relationships between leading Maryland educational institutions and civic organizations to facilitate public advocacy.
