Praised by the distinguished Classical Guitar Magazine as ‘having the star potential to serve as inspiration for new generations of guitarists to come’, Guitarist Meng Su gave her Carnegie Hall Debut along with guitarist Yameng Wang as the Beijing Guitar Duo in 2010. Immediately after the concert, the Duo was signed by the Artist Management Group in New York and since then began their professional duo career performing around the globe.
Ms. Su has performed throughout Europe, Asia and United States giving solo, duo, quartet concerts and has gained enormous attention from the world. Beijing Duo’s debut CD “Maracaipe”, released in 2009, received a Latin-Grammy nomination for the titled piece Maracaipe, which was dedicated to the duo by renowned guitarist, composer Sergio Assad. Their second CD, Bach to Tan Dun has been widely noted for the debut recording of the guitar arrangement of Tan Dun’s Eight Memories in Watercolor, which arranged for the duo by their mentor, Maestro Manuel Barrueco.
Ms. Su and the duo have been performing with Maestro Manuel Barrueco in trio in Europe and United States. Their first trio CD “China West” was released in May 2014, with the title piece “China West” written by Chen Yi, transcribed for three guitars by Maestro Barrueco.
Since picked up the guitar at age 5, Meng Su has showed her talents from an early age and has won first-prize in numerous competitions, including the 5th Vienna Youth Guitar Competition, the 48th Tokyo International Guitar Competition, the 1st Christopher Parkening Young Guitarist Competition and the 2nd Iserlohn International Guitar Competition in Germany.
Besides her performing career, Ms. Su has been an avid teacher as well. She and the duo have been giving masterclasses all over the world. In 2010, after the duo’s debut recital in San Francisco, they were appointed resident artists for the SF Performances, a leading organization in North America. Their 4-year residency in the bay area includes giving community concerts, working with students from elementary schools to high school, masterclasses/coaching at SF Conservatory, as well as two main-hall concerts in the SF performance concert series.
Ms. Su received the 2014 Individual Artist Award in Classical Performance from the Maryland State Arts Council, and is supported by the Maryland Touring Artist Program.
