Since joining St. Mary’s College of Maryland in 2013, April Ryan has taught both graduate and undergraduate courses in Educational Studies. Previously, she was a middle school art teacher with St. Mary’s County Public Schools. She is currently the Instructional Technologist for St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
April is dedicated to teaching and has been thrilled with the opportunities that St. Mary’s has offered her; including teaching Technology in the Classroom and Art Methods to the Master of Arts in Teaching students. April has also developed a partnership with Boyden Gallery, in order to provide the local schools more artistic outlets and exposure.
April’s focus in Instructional Technology is to enhance the already stellar academic experience at SMCM through the use of instructional tech. Using her art teaching background, April encourages her students and peers to click around and explore instructional tech. She sees the two content areas- art and technology- as similar experiences for learners, since not everyone believes they have the ability to draw or be ‘tech savvy.” April is hopeful that through her future initiatives, SMCM will continue to provide a rich and thorough academic experience to its students, with the added factor of technology engagement.
As the interim Education Facilitator, April serves as the liaison between St. Mary’s College of Maryland and St. Mary’s County Public Schools. She aides in placing SMCM undergrad volunteers in classrooms around the area.
When she is not furthering her professional career, April enjoys time spent with her family, painting, drawing, and making sure she has the most colorful office on campus.
