The primary duty of this position is to conduct inspection and compliance activities in the Winston Salem Regional Office. This position will inspect primarily small to medium size manufacturing facilities to assure compliance with state and federal regulations relating to air quality. The above compliance work requires a good knowledge of industrial processes, control strategies, emissions testing and continuous monitoring procedures, and permitting and enforcement policies, and the ability to technically review engineering drawings, permit applications, and emission factors. Additional duties consist of consulting with engineering and environmental staff, industry, and the public on air quality related environmental concerns such as complaint investigation, and response to emergency situations. This Specialist will also observe source tests, write technical reports, source inspection reports, notice of violations, and enforcement reports, as well as assist in the preparation and review of emissions inventories.
The Specialist responds to complaints received from the public pertaining to open burning issues and other air quality problems and issues. The Specialist will document the complaint investigation in writing and determine if violations have occurred. The Specialist must use discretion and good communication skills in resolving such complaints when working with the affected parties.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in one of the agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Farm Manager & Instructor Of Agriculture (6200)
Location: Maryland
Farm Manager / Agricultural Instructor position opening in north eastern Maryland. A minimum of five years experience, to support a broad range of activities on the farm is required. The manager will be responsible for management duties as described below and the ability to teach and train beginning farmers to become versatile in a large variety of farming practices, i.e., permaculture design and implementation, raised beds, vertical farming, small commercial and urban farming, high tunnel production, square foot gardening, greenhouse operation and management, etc. The target trainees are our military veterans with Traumatic Brain Injury or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, however anyone having interest in the coursework is welcome to enroll.
The farm manager will report directly to the Executive Director. Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the operation of a farm, including planning and managing production
- Plan and direct activities such as planting, growing, and harvesting crops and the raising and caring for poultry livestock.
- Seed ordering and material acquisition
- Insect and weed control, fertility monitoring and general field observation
- Cultivation activities
- Infrastructure planning, creation and maintenance
This job includes a 3-story house equipped with a washer and dryer, hardwood floors, and fully equipped with all necessary appliances.
