Held annually in August, the Governor’s Cup Yacht Race is the oldest and longest overnight race on the Chesapeake Bay. This year marks the 44th running of the race from Maryland’s current capital city in Annapolis to its first capital city in St. Mary’s City. Simultaneously, Potomac Leg sailors start at Dahlgren and Southern Leg sailors start at Fishing Bay to sail to St. Mary’s City.
At the finish line, race participants are greeted to shore by College alumni and other members of the campus community for a weekend-long celebration including a Waterfront Crab Feast & Barbecue, Governor’s Cup Awards Ceremony, and Live Music with Byzantine Top 40.
This year, we are starting a new tradition to welcome recent graduates into the St. Mary’s College of Maryland Alumni Association. Zero Year Reunion will invite the Class of 2016 back to their home on the river to reunite with their college friends and learn about all of the benefits of being a St. Mary’s alum.
