January 29, 2015 @ 8:15 pm - 9:30 pm
The VOICES Reading Series welcomes Kate Milliken (short story fiction).
Kate Milliken’s stories have appeared in Zyzzyva, Fiction, New Orleans Review, and Santa Monica Review, among other literary journals. A graduate of the Bennington College Writing Seminars as well as the recipient of fellowships from the Vermont Studio Center, the Tin House Summer Writer’s Workshop, and several Pushcart Prize nominations, Milliken has also written for television and commercial advertising. Her debut collection of stories, “If I’d Known You Were Coming” was chosen for the 2013 John Simmons Short Fiction Award by author Julie Orringer. Having moved around for most of her life, between parents and half a dozen cities, Milliken is now happily settled in the suburban wilds of Northern California with her husband, Adam Karsten, and their two kids. She is currently working on a screenplay based on her short story, “Mad River,” as well as completing a novel. Milliken teaches on behalf of the UCLA Extension Writers’ Program.
The VOICES Reading Series is co-funded by the English Department, the Environmental Studies Program, the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Program, the International Languages and Cultures Department, the Alumni Office, the Twain Lecture Series on American Humor and Culture, Slack Winery, and the Arts Alliance of St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
