The SOS emergency coverage insurance fee should be given to the Office of International Education before the final study abroad meeting, generally at the pre-departure meeting. All other expenses are to be paid by the individual while in country.

Financial Aid
Your general SMCM scholarships and federal financial aid can be used to pay your tuition for the fall semester if you are earning 12 or more credits.
.
Scholarships
Currently in the works are two annual awards, with the mission to improve U.S.-African relations on a one-to-one basis. If these scholarships are established, awards will be presented to two promising teacher candidates each year who plan to participate in The Gambia Teacher Internship. Each award is accompanied with a stipend to cover airfare and/or other trip expenses.

Student teachers are also eligible to apply for some selective awards; make inquiries with the Office of International Education and/or local organizations such as the Rotary, Kiwanis, and Optimists Clubs.
