The St. Mary's River has provided the training ground for our successful varsity sailing team and we enjoy the status of being one of the best intercollegiate sailing programs in the nation, producing 14 national championships, over 100 All-Americans, two Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year, and three Olympians, one of whom is a silver medalist.
However, our waterfront programming doesn't focus only on competition. Many programs are designed to give every student the opportunity to make sailing a life-long pursuit. Whether they continue on as racers, cruisers, or enthusiasts, each student, while here, has access to the College's fleet of sailing dinghies, keelboats, rescue boats, ocean kayaks, and crew shells.

Over half the student body completes at least one sailing class and additional programs are offered to the community including the "Sail into Life" program that brings sailing to economically disadvantaged youth. We are also a training site for Special Olympics sailing and provides a venue and support for a number of community programs, such as the Brendan Junior Sailing Program for youths with learning differences.
To keep all of our waterfront programs current and challenging, St. Mary's continually looks to expand its fleet, giving students experience with many types of craft. We have gotten to be a successful waterfront program through your ongoing, private support.
Donations of boats are made to the SMCM Boat Foundation, Inc., a fundraising arm of the College whose members are experienced competitive sailors. The Foundation has full tax-exempt status as defined in section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code. Most gifts to the Foundation are eligible to be used as an income tax deduction. Please see the contact information on the right if you are interested in donating your vessel.
