The Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty’s Office at St. Mary’s College of Maryland is dedicated to assisting the College community to identify and secure funds that support research and scholarship that benefit faculty members, students, the College, and the general public. The office provides support services to the members of the College faculty--serving as the first point of contact for requests for both internal and external funding sources.
“Sponsored programs” are defined as those projects that (1) are conducted by members of the faculty and (2) are supported by external, restricted funding awarded to the College by outside agencies. Sponsored programs may involve research, instruction, or service.
In acquiring these funds, the College enters into legal obligations in accordance with the terms of the written proposal or the grant agreement. These obligations are based upon the project description developed by the faculty member (in the case of a proposal) or jointly by the sponsor and the faculty member (in the case of a contract or a cooperative agreement). The College has established application procedures to assure faculty and institutional integrity and to ensure compliance with external legal requirements.
