Awareness and Events
RAINN Day
RAINN (Rape Abuse and Incest National Network) is the nation's largest anti-sexual assault organization. Among its programs, RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (1.800.656.HOPE) and recently launched the National Sexual Assault Online Hotline. Both hotlines are free, confidential, and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
RAINN Day is an annual campaign that encourages volunteers and advocates to raise awareness about sexual assault on campuses across the country and to get others involved in the prevention of sexual violence.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Domestic Violence Awareness Month evolved from the first Day of Unity observed in October 1981 by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The intent was to connect battered women's advocates across the nation who were working to end violence against women and their children. The Day of Unity soon became a special week when a range of activities were conducted at the local, state, and national levels. In October 1987, the first Domestic Violence Awareness Month was observed.
For more information on Domestic Violence Awareness Month, visit the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence website.
Sexual Assault Awareness Month
The month of April is designated as Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). The goal of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual violence (focusing on sexual assault and rape) and to educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence.
For more information on Sexual Assault Awareness Month, visit the National Sexual Violence Resource Center website.
Take Back the Night
Throughout its history, Take Back the Night has inspired both women and men to confront a myriad of social ills, including rape, sexual violence, domestic violence, violence against children, and violence against women. The unifying theme throughout these diverse topics is the assertion that all human beings have the right to be free from violence, the right to be heard, and the right to reclaim those rights if they are violated.

The Clothesline Project
The Clothesline Project (CLP) is a program started in Cape Cod, MA in 1990 to address the issue of violence against women. It is a vehicle for women affected by violence to express their emotions by decorating a shirt. They then hang the shirt on a clothesline to be viewed by others as testimony to the problem of violence against women.
