This study tour allows students the opportunity to experience life in the beautiful Andes mountains through homestays in Cusco with experienced local families. While there students will visit Machu Picchu and a variety of archaeological sites and Colonial churches. They will also be given the opportunity to participate in a ceramics and weaving workshop, and eat delicious Peruvian food.
This tour offers 4 upper-level courses in History, Art History, Latin American Studies, or Environmental Studies and ELAW.
SMCM has offered this tour for 9 years in conjunction with a local Cusco liaison, Centro Tinku who arranges and shepherds our group through all.

Dr. Brodsky brings expertise in the area of colonial and contemporary Latin American History as well as personal experience traveling throughout South America. Dr. Brodsky was the co-leader for this Study Tour in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, and has taken St. Mary’s Nitze students to Argentina in Summer 2010. She is a native Spanish speaker.

Dr. Phillips lends her expertise in Art History and Archaeology of Pre-Columbian cultures of the Andes and her own love of travel to all places Latin America, including South America. Dr. Phillips co-led the 2013 Study Tour to Peru. She speaks Spanish at an advanced level.
