Assistant Professor of Physics (Theoretical Physics)
The Department of Physics at St. Mary’s College of Maryland invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in theoretical physics, beginning August 2019.
Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physics; post-doctoral and/or teaching experience is preferred. Applicants with expertise in astrophysics or applied physics are especially encouraged to apply. Teaching responsibilities include introductory and upper-level courses. All professors at St. Mary’s are expected be committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching and to contribute to the college-wide core curriculum as well as to their departmental curriculum. The development of an active research program involving undergraduates is expected. An interest in attracting and retaining students from underrepresented groups is desirable.
The SMCM Physics Department received the 2017 Award for Improving Undergraduate Education from APS, and it was featured as a model in the Phys21 report from APS and AAPT. The Department’s culture of inclusion has been described in The Physics Teacher 55, 356 (2017).
