Gallery and Collections Coordinator
The Office of Academic Affairs at St. Mary’s College of Maryland is accepting applications for two (2) part-time contingent positions of Gallery and Collections Coordinator, to begin approximately September 30, 2017. The Gallery and Collections Coordinator is charged with day-to-day care of the SMCM Teaching Collection and of activities related to Boyden Gallery. Employee will work closely with faculty wishing to use the Teaching Collection or the Gallery, and will oversee student workers who will staff Boyden Gallery during open hours.
Qualifications: Applicants must have a B.A. in art history, anthropology, conservation/preservation, collections management or related field, as well as a minimum of 6 months of experience in gallery and/or collections management. Candidates should have knowledge of records management, art handling and transport, accessioning and deaccessioning policy, loan management, collections database management. This position requires candidates who are detail-oriented with a strong working knowledge of standard museum registration methods and practice. Must be able to supervise a small staff of student workers; strong oral and written communications skills, excellent problem-solving skills and work both independently and collaboratively. Must possess a valid Maryland driver’s license. Desired qualifications include experience and/or interest in working in a small, rural, liberal arts academic environment. Any combination of acceptable education and experience that has provided the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfil the requirements of this position may be considered. An interest in attracting and retaining students from underrepresented groups is desirable.
