Student Life
Living and Eating on Campus
Students live in a multi-story, international residence hall that houses overseas students from at least 15 countries. Students live in a four-person suite with shared livingroom and bath. Each student has his or her own bedroom.
Students will receive a stipend of 1,100 yuan per month for food, and you will pay for meals as you eat them. A small fee for electricity usage may be charged to the student if usage goes above a set limit. A small fee for Chinese government-mandated health insurance will also be charged.
Student Activities
Classoom study is often supplmented by trips organized and sponsored by Fudan Univeristy to work units, institutions, and cultural events in Shanghai.
In addition, there is a one-month break during the Chinese New Year in January or February. There is a week break in May (First of May holiday) and a week break in October (Frist of October) during which students may travel independently or with Fudan University groups. All travel undertaken during the Chinese New Year is at each student's own expense, but since the trips are sponsored by the university, they are heavily subsidized and the cost is quite reasonable. In the fall semester, the international students also enjoy a week break for the Christmas holiday.
Computing at Fudan
Students can bring their own laptops and have access to Ethernet jacks in their rooms for a fee puchasing internet access cards in the residence hall lobby. For those who don't bring their own computer, it is easy to find internet cafes near the residence hall. Cafes are easy to use and can be found in most cities.
