Student Life

Living and Eating on Campus

Double occupancy accommodations at AIU are guaranteed in either the "Global Village" apartments or the residence hall "Komachi Hall." Each room at Akita will have a bed, bookshelf and desk and will share a bathroom with an adjoining room.

The residence halls also offer a lounge area equipped with a Cable TV, sofa, tables, English and Japanese newspapers, vending machines and mail boxes. Laundry machines and dryers are located on each floor.

AIU has a cafeteria and College café on campus serving meals and snacks to students, faculty, and staff as well as the public.

Staying Fit

AIU does not have its own fitness facilities, but the facilities of a multi-sport complex in the Akita Prefecture Central Park in front of the campus are available for student use. The complex offers an indoor all-purpose stadium, athletic fields, cycling paths, and weight-training rooms. You'll find such sporting facilities as basketball courts, tennis courts, Frisbee golf, tracks, cross-country skiing, inline skating trails, archery fields, and baseball and softball diamonds. The facilites are available to individuals and groups of students at no charge or a small fee.

Student Activities

AIU offers students several clubs and circles open to all students to enrich their campus experience. International students are strongly encouraged to join AIU clubs and circles of interest.

These are typical clubs at AIU: Kendo, Tennis, Futsal, Table Tennis, Basketball, Badminton, Volleyball, Jogging, Yoga, Dance, Brass Band, Flower Arrangement, Culture, Korean Culture, Guitar, Global Vision, Choir, Light Music, International Cooperation, Japanese Dance, Broadcasting, Movie, Latin Culture, French Language, Debate, Photography, Sign Language, and Kanto.

Circles: Ecology and Environment, Japanese Chess, Japan Taiwan Conference, Touch Rugby, Aikido, Judo, Karate, Double Dutch, Career Service Support, Musicals and Drama, Shorinji Kempo, and Boxing.

Computer and IT Center

The Computer & IT Center provides services and support concerning computer and campus information system for students, faculty, and staff. There is also an extensive fiber optic campus LAN system which students can access, for a small fee, from their dormitory rooms. Three computer labs are open 24 hours a day equipped with machines, printers, CD burners, DVD players, and projectors: one lab is in the library and two are in the Computer Learning Center.
