Phase 1: Apply to Study for a Semester or Year at James Cook University (JCU)

Students applying for study at JCU must have a minimum GPA of 2.8.

The following forms are due to the Office of International Education by:
October 15 for spring semester study abroad
March 1 for fall semester study abroad

Application form with signature (2 pgs); SMCM students don't have to submit high school transcripts

Signed Confirmation Email - (The Online Profile will send you an email that needs to be signed and returned to the Office of International Education)

Official Transcript--IE Office will request this for you

Mandatory Pre-departure Meeting

Study-abroad students are required to attend two mandatory pre-departure meetings in the semester prior to study abroad.

For Summer 2012, Fall 2012, and Academic Year 2012-13 the pre-departure meetings are as follows:

Part I - Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 4:30-6:00pm

Part II - JCU Program Pre-departure - Tueday, April 10, 2012 - 4pm - Glendening Annex

All sessions will be held in Cole Cinema and refreshments will be served.

Phase 2: Pre-Departure

The following forms are due to the Office of International Education by:
November 7 for spring semester study abroad
April 15 for fall semester study abroad

Assumption of Risk and Release

Acceptance of Offer returned to JCU within 2-3 weeks after admissions notification. You may use the fax machine in the IE Office.

Preapproval of Transfer Credit Form

Courses are not yet available for the Spring semester (Semester 1 in Australia) so please make your selections based on the Spring 2011 semester.

Apply for housing: 
Students choose to apply for housing through JCU Accommodation Servive or make arrangements to live off-campus upon arrival with the assistance of the International Student Center.  Students have the freedom to choose their housing and the responsibility to pay for their housing directly.  SMCM students do not pay SMCM for their housing. 

You will need to pay the $50 accommodation application fee at the time of application to ensure processing of your application.

Instructions - Please bring a copy of your completed registration to the IE Office.

Accommodation upon arrival:
Students who apply for and are granted campus housing will check-in to their housing upon arrival.  Students who wish to live off-campus must arrange arrival accomodation through the Temporary Accommodation Booking Service.

If you wish to find off-campus housing for Spring 2012 you need to arrive by Feb. 4, 2012.

Required arrival dates:
SMCM students are required to arrive at JCU on a particular date and required to attend JCU's mandatory orientation session. 

All students must arrive by Feb. 8, 2012.  However, if you want to find off-campus housing you need to arrive by Feb. 4, 2012 for Spring 2012.

JCU's acceptance letter or correspondence may detail additional requirements that you must complete.  You are responsible for keeping up-to-date on this information and following through on what is expected of you for your participation in the JCU program.
